Intro to Poetry, Day 8: “plesier”

I recently started a 10-day #introtopoetry course, courtesy of WordPress. (You can sign up too.) My eighth assignment is “pleasure” and the literary device is anaphora or epistrophe. I’ve decided to write this one in Afrikaans, and to use the word “plesier” in a childhood sense.

My maat is ’n apie – sy voortande makeer.
My maat trek my vlegsels, oor en oor en weer.
My maat verruil sy witbrood vir my vetkoek en jêm.
My maat glo ek het baie talente.

My maat sê ek praat soos ’n grootmens as ek by die skool is.
My maat neem my na sy huis toe.
My maat speel klavier.
My maat sing in die koor.

My maat se ma is baie slim.
My maat se pa hou van boer.
My maat het mooie broers en susters.

My maat lees moeilike boeke.
My maat lag uit sy maag uit.
My maat hou my hand vas as ons in die pad afstap.
My maat is ver in die wêreld.

My maat is my maat, al sê die mense ook wat.

Read my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh attempt at writing poetry.
